Dr Amarjit Singh Manhas has served the University of Mumbai, his alma mater, as an elected member of the Senate and Management Council for over 30 years. He was the Chairman of Grievance committee of the University of Mumbai. The University of Mumbai had also nominated him as Trustee of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (Museum).
